The Legacy of Spanish Guitars
The Spanish guitar has a soul unlike any other instrument. Founded in 1962 by Alejandro Martinez, the Madrid Luthier Academy was established to preserve the specific, exacting techniques of the Madrid School of luthiery.
For decades, our workshop was closed to the public, building instruments exclusively for concert musicians. In 2010, Alejandro's grandson opened the doors to a select group of students each year, believing that the craft must be taught hands-on to survive the era of mass production.
The Craft
We work exclusively with sustainably sourced, aged tonewoods: Canadian Cedar, European Spruce, and Indian Rosewood. Every guitar built in our academy is crafted entirely by hand, using hide glue and traditional bracing patterns that maximize volume, sustain, and the distinct, warm Spanish tone.
